Caring for a new family can be a very stressful time and this can be expressed in a number of ways: - the baby being difficult - feeding or settling issues - relationship issues - other child displaying challenging behaviour. Sometimes anxiety or feelings of sadness begin to take over and get in the way of doing all the things that we need to be doing like work, spending time with the family or parenting. Getting help at an early stage can make a real difference. My practice aims to provide counselling and support for:
I am also able to provide assistance with general anxiety and depression. I use Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and the Tuning into kids parenting program. I have an attachment base to interventions with mothers and their infants. As an Occupational Therapist (and mother) I have a pragmatic and holistic approach to interventions so that they are relevant and appropriate to the individual day to day needs of the client and their family. So although we may work on a particular issue we will also look at increasing of self esteem and life balance/ self care.
Some private health insurers will cover Occupational Therapy services (for focused psychological services). You will need to check with your provider for the level of your coverage. If you have a health care or pension card you may be bulk billed. This may also be considered in other circumstances. Payment is by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
